Who are we, and why don’t we have a sign?

California Shabu-Shabu is all about Great food, great alcohol, great art, and great times!! Sounds cheesy, but that’s really the easiest way to describe it.

We’re located at 930 Broadway St. in Santa Monica, at the corner of Broadway and 10th. Bodega Wine Bar, Swingers, and Bay Cities Deli are all within a block. If you’ve never had shabu shabu before, we’d love to show you what its all about.

Shabu is a traditional Japanese food, which is simply amazingly tasty and enjoyable. Shabu is by nature a self-cooking experience, but don’t be scared, its not that much trouble at all. Each customer has their own dedicated pot, and can season and cook their food to their exact personal level of love. In addition to our savory gome and ponzu sauces, one of our little things is our hot drops; drops of pure capsaicin. A couple drops of these in your sauces, and if you’re a spicy lover, you’ll be in heaven.

Parking can be found on the street, or we have a couple underground spaces in an underground lot in the alley between 9th and 10th. Metered parking on Broadway is free after 6pm, and usually not hard to find something within at most a block or 2 away. On Sundays all metered parking is free all day.

Moving on to why we don’t have a sign yet. Its been a long process between the city and the landlord, but we’ve paid our deposit, and the sign should be getting made this week. For now, just look for our red neon open sign, wood awning, and large gray pillars. There are plenty of dining spots out there, and we hope that you’ll give us the chance to make Cal Shabu one of your regular spots. Please stop by and see us soon!
